Go to temples, chant, prostrate, observe holidays. I’m sure there are many Tibetan laity whose practice is merit-focused, just like the majority of lay Buddhists the world over. It’s okay to just be a Buddhist, do your practices, devote to the discipline, and that’s that. I’m not immersed enough in Tibetan teachers to really know the extent of all this impropriety, but I think taking the time to seek out teachers that are trustworthy, even if it takes many years, is worth the effort and wait.Īlso, you don’t need to have a teacher, or practice advanced stuff.
